During a panel conversation at Netflix's FYSEE event, Coughlan revealed that next season will follow Colin and Penelope's romance, which will be complicated by Penelope's activities as Lady Whistledown and her falling out with Eloise. However, the Netflix show has decided to star another sibling earlier than expected. For anyone confused why the next leading Bridgerton wouldn't be a woman, the order of the books started with Daphne, then follows the children in alphabetical/age order (Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Eloise, Francesca, Hyacinth, Gregory). If the series continued to follow the order of Quinn's series, the next novel would be An Offer From a Gentleman, a Cinderella-esque story of Benedict's love story with Sophie Beckett, an earl’s daughter forced into servitude by her hateful stepmother. (Image credit: LIAM DANIEL/NETFLIX) Which Julia Quinn book will 'Bridgerton' season 3 be based on? (He also revealed he isn't yet caught up on the second season, months after its release on Netflix-ouch!) "They're free to do as they like," he told Variety. Kate's sister Edwina and mom Mary will also be sticking around London, with Queen Charlotte mentioning that she might set up Edwina with her nephew Prince Friedrich (Freddie Stroma), who wooed Daphne in season 1.Īnd while Regé-Jean Page is not, repeat not, returning to the world of Bridgerton, he's open to the series recasting Simon. Colin has a brief hero moment revealing Lord Featherington's scam, and then breaks Penelope's heart when she overhears him telling his friends that he'd never court her. The intellectual also breaks things off with apprentice Theo because of a fear Penelope puts in her head.Īmong the other storylines, Benedict quits art school after discovering Anthony's large donation got him in. BFFs Eloise and Penelope are on the rocks after Eloise finally discovered the Lady Whistledown secret, but in the end, Penelope decided that it will be a long time before she puts down her quill. Simon may not be back in Bridgerton season 2, but it could still find ways of continuing his story thanks to Daphne's presence and references to him, while focusing on Anthony's journey. The finale saw Anthony and Kate as happy, PDA-heavy newlyweds after they finally get together at the Featherington Ball. And also, I'd like to see Daphne get involved in Anthony's love life, since he was so involved in hers." As Dynevor's status hasn't been confirmed one way or another, it does seem like the door is further open for her return, even if it is in a much smaller role than season 1. Again, her journey is over in terms of being the narrative focus, but as a Bridgerton herself she does have stronger ties to the remaining characters than Simon does, and likely more reasons to visit home. Dynevor herself hopes to be in Bridgerton season 2, and even has ideas for how she could fit into the story, telling Harpers Bazaar: "I'd like to see what happens next. While it's confirmed that Simon isn't in Bridgerton season 2, Daphne's status is a little more unclear. While Bridgerton is a hit, not being tied down to multiple seasons of such a major production frees him up for a lot more roles (he's already working on The Gray Man, the Russo brothers' next movie), and is easier to navigate than having to return to Bridgerton for a bit-part. Page is the breakout star of the show, with his name already linked to playing the next James Bond. That may depend more on Page, with the actor revealing that he only ever committed to one season, and that was part of the attraction for him. It in effect turns Bridgerton into a quasi-anthology, where the central storyline will be changed up radically each year, but many of the same players could still come and go, which means it's always possible Simon could show up again. Since each of Quinn's books focuses on a different Bridgerton child, then this is something viewers of the show may need to get used it.
